Introduction

William Penn University has produced 226 all-conference football players and sent several players into the pro ranks including Wilbur Young (1968-71), Bruce Polen (1971-72), Jim Portese, and most recently Andy Stokes (2002-2004). Young played for the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers, Polen played for the Oakland Raiders and Chiefs and Portese suited up for the Arizona Wranglers.  Stokes gained immediate media fame when he became Mr. Irrelevant as the final pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

Penn joined the NAIA in 2001, while 2002 was the Statesmen's first year of competition in the Mid-States Football Association. The Statesmen concluded their best campaign in 29 years by finishing 6-5 (4-3 Midwest League) in 2005.

The squad, guided by fourth-year head coach Todd Hafner, was 5-6 this past year, including a 3-4 mark in the MWL.

12 players earned all-conference recognition, while four players earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes for their work in the classroom.
